Pafos – The Tzelefos Venetian Bridge
Hidden in the depths of the Pafos forest, this medieval bridge has such a magical feel to it, you can almost imagine it’s straight out of a fantasy film. While now this is a tranquil spot, it was once a major thoroughfare connecting Pafos to other areas of Cyprus. The bridge is 6km from Agios Nikolaos village and is easily accessible from Paphos, Limassol, and Troodos. You’ll enjoy the spectacular views experienced along your journey too!
Ayia Napa – The Ayia Napa Sculpture Park
The Ayia Napa Sculpture Park opened in 2014 and plays host to sculptures large and small from over 20 artists from all over the globe. With the ocean behind, you’ll certainly have some interesting photo opportunities as you explore the 20,000 square meter site. Every year more sculptures are added to the collection, so there’s always something new to discover.
Larnaca – The Larnaca Salt Lake
Bird watchers will be in their element with a trip to the Larnaca Salt Lake. During the winter the lake fills up with water that is very high in nutrients and rich in brine shrimp, attracting several thousand migrating birds on their way to Africa. Here you’ll spot rare waterfowl and even the Greater Flamingo between November and March. Follow the four-kilometer nature trail to the old aqueduct of Kamares and enjoy an informative and picturesque walk with important flora and fauna pointed out to you via signs along your journey.
Limassol – The Holy Monastery of Saint Nicholas
Building work began on the monastery in 327 CE and the tale tells that the monastery was infested with snakes slowing the progress of the building works, so Saint Helena imported 1000 cats to the island to kill the snakes. This proved to be a success and the monastery was eventually finished. It’s highly likely that this is a true story, as, in 1983, nuns living in the monastery had a problem with snakes. So they took a lesson from the past and brought in cats, the problem was soon solved. Now the Holy Monastery of Saint Nicholas of the Cats takes in strays in honor of the duty cats have performed to the monastery all through history.
